Insignificance

Insignificance

April 25, 2008

The ant’s life and family under your shoe.
The unclaimed dead in the common grave.
A tree falling in the wilderness with no one to see or hear.
A life lived thoughtlessly.
The details of a project too high to be seen.
Letters written and never sent.
The dust under the couch.
Living creatures on the moon.

Insignificance, like its alternative
is determined by the
Writer and the reader.

The ant,
the mother,
the raccoon,
the person,
the manager,
the author,
the housecleaner
and God
don’t see the insignificance.

I wrote this for an entry in a poetry contest on Allpoetry.com with the prompt, Insignificance.  I won second place in the contest.
