Joy Beside Me

Joy Beside Me

November 18, 2006

I looked beside me, and she was there.

I remember the day when it was late in the hot summer
God chose this day of all of them to give a gift to me
My brother, sister, parents and friends surrounding
New suits and the beautiful dress; music and singing
Exchanged vows--I desired a wife and received a friend
And I looked beside me, and she was there.

What a relationship that has begun!

The ones we raised are raising their own
And sitting with us to have coffee and conversation.
Each enjoys his own wife in his arms with hugs and kisses
Treasuring the companionship they each share.
Their children run at their feet and ours.
And I looked beside me, and she was there.
The great change has occurred,
All is different now--better, more glorious
With golden paths of joy and love
Only memories of past lifted burdens remain,
What rapture to be in the presence of him who made us
And I looked beside me, and she was there.
